VP of Marketing

The VP Marketing is responsible for SustainLane's overall branding and messaging. The role is within the company's "shared services" group, and as such, this role supports all four media properties of the Company and will require excellent collaboration with the management of the four existing media areas and other staff executives. In this fast-paced start-up, you will be asked to play many roles within the scope of marketing, from strategy and setting direction to creation of collateral, event planning and communications. You will be expected to manage outside vendors and agencies, and to direct an internal staff. Key to your success will be the ability to rapidly expand online communities, conceive of and manage marketing campaigns across all media types, with an emphasis on digital channels, and cover consumer, government, and business-to-business market development and media distribution across multiple channels.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Design and implement strategies to acquire new users using online and viral marketing.
  • Use analytical methods to fine-tune the product offering to achieve viral growth.
  • Establish and grow the company's brand presence through online grassroots marketing—seeding and nurturing online forums, blogs, referral sites and other online points of presence.
  • Manage the brand's web site, design and web analytics.
  • Track and measure search engine marketing and online advertising programs; design test strategies and creative to optimize results.
Credentials and Experience

The successful candidate will have at least 15 years marketing experience, with increasing roles of responsibility, in consumer-oriented web and/or digital media brands. We are looking for an articulate presenter who is comfortable in front of press and who has significant public speaking and written communication skills. You will have wide-ranging experience across media in general, and have knowledge of, and passion for, the sustainability marketplace and movement. An MBA is preferred, but not required.

Web Developer

We are looking for a talented front-end web developer to work closely with engineering, design, creative, editorial, marketing, and advertising. This is a great position for a self-starter who enjoys working in a small group and wants more responsibilities. Must have understanding and ability to implement a wide breadth of front-end technologies - XHTML, CSS, javascript, actionscript, flash as well as some server side technologies - jsp, php with the opportunity to grow.

Required Skills
  • XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash, ActionScript (Flash and ActionScript for integration needs and not necesarily for content production)
  • JSP, PHP, intermediate level knowledge of server side scripting languages in order to implement presentation layer
  • Clean coding. - coding by hand preferred as opposed to using something like Dreamweaver
  • Photoshop production skills, ability to implement presentation layer from psd file
  • Eye for detail, well organized, ability to take direction as well as provide guidance

Senior Account Executive

This is a great opportunity to help us build our business in the quickly growing green space. We are looking for an experienced online advertising salesperson to join our growing team. You will be targeting large interactive agencies and direct clients who are targeting the "green" or LOHAS consumer base. In the past year, sustainability stories have been on the cover of The Economist, Business 2.0, Time Magazine, Wired and other media publications.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for negotiating and selling online advertising and transactional-based marketing placements
  • Must be able to show quota attainment and growth over a two year period
  • Oversee, maintain and upgrade existing accounts to ensure ongoing client satisfaction
  • Develop new business and long term account opportunities through prospecting and cold calling
  • Coordinate, manage and resolve account maintenance issues
  • Must be able to effectively interface with CEO, VP Sales, and other management executives
  • Complete RFP's and proposals, follow up on submissions and close business
  • Must be passionate about the online space and have a detailed working knowledge of the industry along with a pulse on what is forthcoming
  • Develop and cultivate long lasting Client relationships with all levels including CEO, CMO, Brand Managers, Agencies and Media buyers
  • Navigate internally with various business units to create compelling Media solutions
  • Must be extremely effective at initiating high-level contacts in accounts and their agencies, and have strong presentation skills to close the sale
Credentials & Experience
  • Experience selling to National tier accounts and companies
  • Minimum 2 years direct sales experience - internet advertising experience a plus
  • Demonstrated sales results
  • Aggressive sales instincts, coupled with consultative, professional demeanor
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for the "green" space
  • Intuitive/creative thinker
  • Outstanding computer skills including solid knowledge of spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (Word) and CRM systems including Salesforce
