Welcome to the SustainLane Newsletter. This edition is about packaging, recycling and re-use. One of our users recommends a minimally packaged, airline friendly shampoo, The Unsustainables get recycled on Yahoo! Video, and we talk about how one of our favorite personal care companies, Pangea Organics, takes re-usable packaging to a whole other level.

J.R. Liggett's Old Fashioned Bar Shampoo

John W., of Brookeville, MD, advocates J.R. Liggett's Old Fashioned Bar Shampoo, as a sustainable and convenient choice for shampoo.

“As a sustainability consultant, I take a hard look at products. This one is one of my favorites—100% vegetable based, all natural oils, minimal recycled paper packaging, soy-based inks; all biodegradable—nothing to throw away in a landfill. And since it's a bar, like hand soap, you're not paying to ship a bunch of water as you do with a liquid shampoo. I've used it for years and love it. But it has an added bonus in this era of airline security—since it's not a liquid, it can stay in your carry-on bag.”

Tell us about a product with sustainable packaging and you’ll be entered for a chance to receive an eco-friendly car—only 2 months left! Plus, you might be featured in our next newsletter.

Going to be in Chicago in April? SustainLane still has a limited number of tickets to the Chicago Green Festival that we’d love to share with you. If you’re one of the first to email us, we’ll give you two tickets.

    Pangea Organics

Everyone at SustainLane loves Pangea Organics’ line of personal care products, but SL staffer Netty L. is especially crazy about Pangea’s plant-able product cartons that are made using a zero-waste process with 100% post-consumer paper.

“The cartons contain organic seeds like edible sweet basil and flowering amaranth. You can simply slip off the label, soak the box in water for a minute and plant it in the earth. It’s so amazing! You don’t just get a bottle of lotion, you also get a basil plant. In addition, Pangea Organics uses natural and organic ingredients that nurture skin. They use only whole, organic herbal extracts and essential oils – no synthetic fragrances, fillers or chemical solvents. Not only are Pangea products organic and non-toxic, but they smell incredible—my personal favorite is the Pyrenees lavender cardamom lotion—and the package designs are beautiful. I love seeing Pangea products in my bathroom.”

In honor of Earth Day Awareness Month, Pangea is offering SustainLane readers 15% OFF online orders $25+ now thru April 30th. Click here or enter Promo Code 304029 at Check Out.
