Welcome to the Weekly SustainLane
Newsletter, a
weekly selection of your great reviews, news
about
sustainability, and updates from SustainLane.
October is fair trade month so this edition is all about
coffee. Susie S. picks up
a Box
O'Beans by Gorilla
Coffee Roasters whenever she is in Brooklyn,
and
your
newsletter author Netty L. indulges
in the non-green
guilty pleasure of having organic, fair-trade Holler
Mountain Blend coffee shipped to her from Stumptown
Coffee Roasters in Portland, Oregon. We
announce
last week's winner of Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe
Dog Shampoo, and this week, if you write a
review of
your favorite sustainable coffee and enter
beans in the
keywords, you'll be entered to receive a one pound
bag of organic fair trade Thanksgiving Coffee.

Incredible
Coffee and Fair Trade to Boot
"Whenever I visit New York I make a point to go to
Gorilla Coffee Roasters in Brooklyn. They not only are
serious about Fair Trade but they have some of the
best coffee I've had. And I've had a lot.
All of their beans are great and their Box O' Beans is a
very cool, beautifully packaged gift for you or someone

Congratulations, Emily K! You are
the winner of last
week's review writing contest about pets. Emily K. will
receive a bottle of Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe
Shampoo for her review of Swheat Scoop Natural Kitty
Litter. Check out Emily K.'s Review!
Great for Ferrets
"I switched from regular litter to Swheat Scoop for my 5
ferrets and it was great. Helped with the smell and
easy to use. They had a habit of using their nose to
dig into their litter so a natural litter is the way to go."

Whether coffee is fair trade, local, organic, or shade
grown is just as important as flavor and cost for many
consumers. Here are the latest headlines.
Spilling the Beans on Fair Trade--A
columnist weighs
the benefits and drawbacks of fair trade coffee.
Eating
Local and Organic--While purchasing locally
grown coffee is virtually impossible in the US, the
benefits of buying locally produced goods
are still many.
Starbuck's Black Apron Exclusives--At
over twenty
dollars per pound, Starbuck's new Black Apron
Exclusives, boasting organic and fair trade status, has
encountered some criticism.

Netty L. loves the
Holler
Mountain Organic Blend by
Stumptown
Coffee from Portland, Oregon so much
that she indulges her non-green guilty pleasure and
has it shipped to her in San Francisco, but she takes
comfort in the fact the coffee is organic and fair-trade.
My non-green
guilty pleasure
"I love this coffee from Portland so much that I had to
have it shipped to me. The coffee is green--it's organic
and fair trade--but having it shipped to me when I have
so many locally roasted coffee options isn't so green.
The flavor is so full bodied. It tastes great black or . . .
