Greetings!

Homeopathy inspires strong feelings in both its promoters and its detractors. Promoters say it is based on ancient techniques and that it just plain works. Detractors say it is "pseudoscience" that has never withstood a real scientific test. Here are the facts:

Homeopathy was invented in the late 18th century by Samuel Hahnemann, a Scottish physician. It is based on the theory that "like cures like," and on the theory that water and alcohol absorb the properties of substances dissolved in them, even if those substances are diluted to the point where they are no longer present in the water. Green Video of the Week

James Randi is a famous skeptic of the "scientifically impossible," with an outstanding agreement to pay a million dollars to anyone who can prove the existence of something supernatural. In this BBC special, Horizon, a company that produces homeopathic remedies, takes on the challenge to prove that water can absorb the characteristics of substances diluted to the point where they are no longer present. With this much money on the line, the two agreed to let the BBC film the challenge and have the Royal Scientific Society of London judge the results. Check it out.
