Greetings!

As Louis Pasteur said, "Chance favors the prepared mind." With earthquakes, tornados, cyclones, and global warming headlines swirling around us, it's definitely time to get a prepared mind, and a disaster preparedness kit to go with it.

Starting your own kit is easy, and if you're motivated, there are greener, healthier substitutes for the one you've got now. Keep reading for an herbal first aid kit, a crank powered flashlight, and some organic dried mangos to keep your spirits up!

See the difference between a family prepared for disaster and one that's lacking in the Green Video of the Week, and read up on the latest disaster preparedness news in our In the News section.

Kids
: The US Department of Homeland Security has created a website called Ready Kids to help prepare you and your little ones for any natural disaster you come face to face with.

Pets: Pets are NOT allowed in Red Cross Safety Shelters, and during large disasters most rescue workers will refuse to evacuate pets. There are good reasons for this, but our pets are part of our families, so make sure your disaster plan includes a contingency for your pets. Click here to see what the Red Cross suggests.
Featured Business: The Illuminator
Wind Up Flashlight and Cell Phone Charger
The absence of light can cause our hearts to beat faster, but couple it with a disaster that's left you without power and panic can set in pretty quick. Ada B. recommends you keep one of these crank powered flashlights on hand so you can always let there be light.
