Donate to a Cause
|
Charity donations in someones name are always in style, and many charities will now let you print your certificate right from home, so it is immediate too.
Some ideas include Heifer International, which donates farm animals to people in developing countries, and Opportunity International, fighting to end global hunger.
Planting trees is another popular choice, and even there you have options: TreeGreetings.com is paper-free through the whole donating process, while Trees for a Change got some great reviews from SustainLane users:
Wonderful Experience with Trees for a Change
"For my son's first birthday we asked our party guests to donate a tree in his honor rather than bring a gift...Our friends and family were thrilled to participate in the tree
donations..." Click to read more

Last Minute D-I-Y Gifts
|
During the winter we all get dry, chapped skin and need soothing bath products to fight the effects of cold weather. SustainLaners have plenty of DIY tips for that: give your loved ones homemade herbed bath salts or a salt scrub as gifts. You can even add a luxurious lotion to the mix for a post-bath complement.
You can customize the gifts based on your giftee's favorite scents. Mountain Rose Herbs offers an assortment of organic herbs and oils, and ships them directly to your doorstep.
For a spin on the traditional gift basket, you can't go wrong with organic wines and organic chocolates for the foodie on your list. Visit you local Whole Foods or Trader Joe's to pick up items for the basket.
Finally, make sure you package your gifts right using these D-I-Y wrapping tips.

Go Local With a CSA
|
Give a gift that truly keeps on giving with a community supported agriculture (CSA) subscription. Not only is it delicious, is also an easy way to stick to a 100-mile diet.
This great gift is just a click away: go to our CSA search page, click on "local search," and type in your address or zip to find a CSA near you. SustainLane user Abendigo R. has this to say about his local CSA:
From the Farm to Your Front Door
"My favorite thing about the CSA box is that it puts me in touch with
the seasons. It's also really fun to be creative based on what we get
in our box..." Click to read more.
