This Merlot, courtesy of the Carrossi Vineyards in Sonoma has a mellow nose that doesn't begin to do justice to the oral experience to follow that first sip. Without divulging my sensory experience (red fruit, pepper etc.), I do say that this newer wine embraces the complexities of an early 80's Pomerol.
You sip, taste, and then have an oral and retro-nasal experience that rivals even the finest dinner experiences and all you can do is go back for more. California Merlot, is often pretentious and aggressive making it upsetting to drink, this experience is quite the opposite, mellow, modest, and full flavored.
"Have me with a piece of free-range, all natural beef, topped in a rich bearnaise sauce or, with a heavy cream sauce," said the 2004 Merlot to our reporters.
