I'm reading Dr. Theodore Baroody's book "Alkalize or Die". This week I tested my own pH. I found out that I'm too acidic. He believes pH imbalance is the underlying cause of "the pandemic health problems we face" - terminal diseases and a flood of chronic illnesses continuing to rise. Baroody's title may be alarming, but if his premise is true...a pH imbalance in our blood may be the very reason some of us are more prone to disease and illness than others, accelerated aging, and why so many die prematurely! Our bodies are designed to thrive with a pH of 7.35 to 7.45.
Here's the gist of what's in this book: Baroody give us a simple analogy: "Too much acidity in the body is like having too little oil in your car. It just grinds to a halt one lazy Sunday afternoon." A proper alkaline-acid balance will alleviate and prevent health problems. We need to absorb acid-binding minerals i.e. calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium to name just a few. He suggests starting out changing diet to 60% raw, fresh fruits and vegetables with an alkaline chemistry, and 40% cooked foods. Begin avoiding refined, processed, enriched, chemicalized or preserved sugars, salts and foods; and, avoid meat, dairy, wheat and eggs. This dietary plan will be much easier for vegetarians to adhere to than those of us that are used to getting our protein from meats.
