What is epoxy resin?
My concern about the Sigg water bottle is the lining. I have read that it has an "epoxy resin" lining. The information from the company says that it is microthin. What is epoxy resin and do you want your water sitting in it before drinking it? What do they mean by plant based material.? Not all plants are safe. What plants are they using? If it is biodegradable does that mean it is safe? If it is so thin, how do I know that it won't flake off. I believe there is no lining made and applied by man that will not break down and eventually leech into the water. Extreme heat (like bottles left in cars in the summer) and cold must have some effect on the lining. The only materials I would feel comfortable with are glass and stainless steel. There are different grades of stainless steel What grade of stainless steel is the Klean Kanteen? The stainless steel made in China is not the same grade that was made in the U.S. 30 years ago. I can't tell you what the materials are that make up stainless steel, but I do know in some consumer products, the Chinese put in just enough of the ingredient that lets it pass as stainless. Thus the lower price. It's about the money and not the safety to the consumer. I don't think we have any good information now to make an informed decision on the water bottle. In my opionion, the only safe vessel is glass at this point. If someone knows of a water bottle that has been tested for all material and has no doubt of its safety, I'd be interested in buying it. I see some valid concerns about both the Sigg and the Klean Kanteen on these blogs.

This was a little confusing. Have you researched the source of steel in the Sigg bottle? Did you contact Sigg for more information about the lining? And why are you bringing up concerns about a completely different product (Klean Kanteen) in your review if they aren't relevant to the Sigg? While it's good to be thorough and ask questions about safety, I didn't find the concerns mentioned here compelling since they are heavily based on speculation and another company's product.

Klean Kanteen uses 18/8 Stainless Steel. So does Thermos. If a company used 18/10 stainless steel, I would buy that bottle right away.
