Global Heating! - Warm too Soft a Word for the Crisis We're In
I became much more aware of the global warming crisis we are in through Al Gore's DVD lecture presentation of "An Inconvenient Truth". Now, his book is required reading for a year-long, sustainable business course I am taking through our local community college. As I go through his book, I am once again reviewing the cold, hard evidence we have that proves we are rapidly reaching the tipping point (I think we already have). If not already too late, each one of us must share the responsibility to take immediate action to do our part to slow or stop global heating. I found the presentation to be very enlightening. I am not interested in being entertained, I am only interested in substantiated facts, which I believe Gore amply provides the viewer. The photography and graphs in the DVD and in his book are excellent tools to drive his points home. With clearly stated information broken down into bite-size chunks, and visuals that any elementary age child or uneducated adult can understand, just about anyone will be able to picture what the future holds for all of us, especially if we fail to individually and collectively take action now. I think Gore's message would have far greater impact if he would tell it like it really is - our planet is not leisurely warming, our planet is rapidly heating up...according to scientists, just two more degrees and we're toast!
Whether or not Gore has all of his own green ducks in a row, his message is one that needs to be heard. It is our responsibility to learn all we can, do all we can, to be the change we want to see in the world.
