A letdown
For months, I collected and trucked home all compostable food waste produced by my small office. This got smelly, sometimes messy, and forced me to go straight home since I was carrying garbage in my bag. I searched for an in office solution for the compost issue, and decided on this product. The idea is good in theory, but the composter did not fit the needs of our office. The waste was not decomposing correctly, and it was really smelly. I had to get elbow deep in what smelled like raw sewage twice to try to start over - we added compost cultures, shredded paper to try to even our green to brown... and finally gave up. This product doesn't work in an office situation, but maybe would be ok in a garage at home where there's a draft or something.

I bought one of the original models in Aug, 2007 and was very disappointed. Like you, I found it smelly, it leaked onto the floor, did not empty properly - you had to push the stuff down by hand and all in all, was not ready for prime time. I looked like a prototype, something they should have been testing in their own homes and should not have been sold yet. I hate mine. When I saw the new models I complained about the old one and all they offered me was a $50. discount on a new one. Big f**king deal. Can't recommend it.

You probably need the PRO version, which was released in 2008. That one seems to be designed for office or restaurant use. The one you have is the home version, and probably an older model.
