paper from paper, that makes a difference!

Made from 100% recycled paper. 80% post consumer content. Whitened without chlorine bleach. Made by Royal Paper in Arizona (wish factory was closer). Nuff said.

My local Safeway (Healdsburg, CA) carried this item for a few months, then stopped. It was absolutely the ONLY toilet paper they carried that could be called sustainable. I've just sent them an email to ask why.

Meanwhile, i'm now getting my toilet paper at Trader Joe's. Their brand has the same specs (80% post-recycled), AND IT'S CHEAPER!

Incidently, it's maddening to me to see many brands of toilet paper at my local "natural" foods store (Whole Foods) advertising themselves as "100%" recycled, when in fact if you check the fine print, only a small percentage (like 40 to 60% is POST-CONSUMER recycled!

Finding a product that's both 80% post-consumer, and REASONABLY PRICED, as this one, is diffiicult !!!

You know, I recentely ran into a similar problem the other day. I went to my local Vons (where I bought this products for many, many month) the other day and they stopped carrying it. I was so mad. I was totally torn and had no idea as what to do, as there wasn't any other feasible option that remotely promoted sustainability. I felt completely cheated and wanted to go home. Its silly, I know, but buying regular teepee isn't for me. I like to vote with my dollars, you know?
I'll check out Trader Joe's for sure. Thanks for being so helpful :) Its exteremely sad because Vons is directly across the street from my apartment and I really liked that toliet paper, too.

Hi Kelly,

Here's an interesting P.S. for you on this item.

I got to thinking, and compared a roll of the paper from Safeway and a roll from Trader Joe's. The imprint pattern matches, exactly.

So what i think we have here is Trader Joe's having contracted with Royal Paper to put Trader Joe's name on packages of the same TP that Royal has been supplying to both Safeway and Von's with their own "Earth First" name on it.

Fact is, stores like Trader Joe's make almost nothing themselves. They just do what they've done with this TP. One reason being that they want you to come back to them for the product. But another is that they may be selling the item cheaper, and the manufacturer doesn't want to undercut themselves.

So, you may have to drive further (sorry!!), but you can get the same thing (and cheaper, too, if my experience proves out for you) at Trader Joe's.

Regards,
Martin
