Voluntary Simplicity
I recommend everyone read Duane Elgin's book Voluntary Simplicity. He wrote it in 1981, and revised it in 1993, yet it speaks our language today, as we find ourselves living in times he wrote of over 25 years ago. Environmentally conscious consumers are motivated by and practice the very lifestyle changes and habits that Elgin notes as behaviors and characteristics of those voluntarily choosing to live a simpler life. He remarks that living to maintain a material existence is 'just not dying', but to live a life ecologically, compassionately and purposefully is fulfilling and empowering. It is not about living in poverty, nor a "back to the land movement", it's about "making the most of wherever you are movement". The book is available on Amazon. Customer reviews are worth reading.
