Book: What Your Doctor Hasn't Told You...
Description: Truth about alternative treatments & what works.
...and the Health Store Clerk Doesn't Know
Edward Schneider, along with Leigh Ann Hirschman, give us 13 chapters of their time to offer advice and give recommendation on commonsense ways to "shop smart" for alternatives for alleviating pain, preventing cancer, and combating chronic health problems such as sleep deprivation, heart disease, and depression. Each chapter starts with two columns dividing what doctor's haven't told you from what the health store clerk doesn't know about Back and Neck Pain, Male Libido, or Brain Function, to name a few.
Not only do they red flag the dangers of many of the traditional medicines used to treat symptoms, but they also warn us about alternative treatments that are either high-risk or their benefits have been over-inflated by practitioners or manufacturers of natural medicinal products. They have us look at common herbal supplements or homeopathic remedies that are popular, but unproven to heal diseases like cancer or conditions like menopause.
I just wrote a review about a green tea product. Let's see what Schneider and Hirschman have to say about green tea: one study shows a 16% decrease in LDL cholesterol, however, another study of 17,000 university alumni showed no difference in cardiovascular disease between those that drank green tea and those that drank other beverages. They do highly recommend drinking green tea for its antioxidant properties rather than taking pills.
Another great benefit of having this guide on your bookshelf is their dosage guidelines and explanations of side effects associated with alternative remedies.
