Comments on Jenn's review of Cafe Fanny
Description: Organic breakfast, brunch restaurant owned and founded by Chez Panisse's Alice Waters
Cafe Fanny - j'adore!
This is one of the few cafes in the Bay Area that really feels European - it's not a regular sit-down breakfast place and yet they attract a huge crowd on weekdays and weekends with a queue going out the door. They offer a limited menu and superlative coffee from Mr Espresso. All their bread is provided by their neighbor - Acme Bakery (so, yes, weekends there are two long lines for both venues).
They have limited outdoor seating and the inside foodbar is a stand-up affair. Service is quick and courteous, prices are pretty reasonable. It's in a great location - just at San Pablo & Cedar, it's on many bus lines and just a few blocks from N. Berkeley BART.
I really love that area because there are so many useful and favorite retail shops nearby - Pet Barn & Wild Bird Annex are across the street, Wilderness Exchange, the Army Surplus, REI and so many other shops are within walking distance.
Cafe Fanny is a great place to get a light meal in midst of your Saturday errands, and even a great place to linger given proper availability of outdoor seating and company.
