This is the most amazing tool to recognize your home energy usage and habits. Know exactly what you are consuming and exactly what you are spending by using your appliances. This simple to connect device clips to the main power cable in your fuse box. It then sends a wireless signal to a handheld receiver. By measuring the magnetic frequency it gauges exactly the amount of energy you are drawing from the grid at 6 second intervals. The display shows how many cents per hour, or lbs of greenhouse gas emissions that you consume. Turn on a light and it shows you the added consumption. Turn off your TV and it shows the savings. Turn down the thermostat and it displays your savings.
This tool has created incredible awareness of our family's energy habits. We know when we are leaving home if anything has been left on accidently. We are rewarded, financially, mentally and eco-consciously, when we turn off a device and the Cent-a-Meter shows the savings. Our energy usage has changed dramatically and in six months we have easily saved enough to to pay to the product purchase (approx $125).
Rumor has it that the UK Government is going to mandate these in every home by 2011. What a bold way to make a national movement toward energy consciousness!
We live in New Zealand and bought ours here. But they are manufactured out of Canada and will operate on 110 and 220 systems.

I am actually the Sarah Binion that you list there -- I used to be the marketing director for the company Cenergies several years ago, but it opted to shut down it's distribution in the US because of lack of interest...they tried to sell B2B rather than direct to the public and it seemed there wasn't much interest. I would suggest writing the folks in Australia and finding their new U.S. distributor. I can safely say, it is a great product -- I would recommend it to anyone wanting to monitor their energy. I haven't worked for them in almost 3 years but I'm happy to lend my endorsement long after the fact. Best of luck finding one...!
