Some nice features, but spend a few bucks more on the Acme Workhorse

I'll start with the positives about Chico Bags. They are a great design---an 18X15 nylon bag that folds into an extremely compact integrated pouch. They're inexpensive. (If you order 4, they cost less than $5 for a bag that you can use again and again!) They have a nifty drawstring closure with a plastic toggle as well as a carbiner clip to hook the bag onto your backpack or purse. They come in nice, earthy colors. But, if you've been using canvas sacks for a while, you might want to spend a bit more money on the Acme Workhorse. I got both both in order to compare them, and, as soon as I opened them, I decided to keep both of the Acme 1500s and give the Chicos as gifts. The Acme Workhorse does lack some of the pizzazz of the Chico (no toggle, no caribiner) but the quality of the rip-stop nylon, the comfort handles, and the durability of the bag more than make up for it. Chico Bags are good, but the Acme 1500 is GREAT so buy your own caribiner clip and go for the real deal.

I've noticed all posts from Angela F. have major put-downs about ChicoBag and she seems like she's trying to sell the Acme 1500. Is she a shopper or are is she paid by Acme to put down ChicoBags? Does she even really care about helping people to incorporate reusable bags into their life? Mabe she's just another green trend profiteer... Take a look at her profile and you'll find that all her posts put down ChicoBags and prop up those Acme bags. Hogwash. I won't buy Acme bags that are sold on the back of mud slinging campaigns and I hope you don't either.

I wrote these two reviews because, in May 2007, I was unable to find any online comparison between these very similar products. That's why I ended up buying both from an online store. Given the open nature of sustainlane, I did not think that my review would be the definitive word on the subject. And I certainly did not receive any kickbacks from Acme! My only goal was to provide a balanced review for people, like myself, who were debating which compact bag to purchase. As you can see, I wrote many positive things about Chico Bags--I awarded them 3 stars, I gave them as gifts to my own relatives, and I complimented their colors, their caribiner clip, their lower price, and their toggle. The closest thing to mudslinging in this exchange is your assertion that I am some kind of green trend profiteer or a shill for Acme bags. Finally, while you say that ALL of my posts put down Chico, fully 1/3 of them are about cloth diapers! Did Acme fund that review, too, in order to hide my true identity? Given the state of the world, aren't there better ways for you to support the green movement than offering sniping commentary about other people's year-old reviews?

Whoa Harland M., I thought the point of reviews was to get both sides of the story. I appreciate Angela's comparison because I have been looking to an alternative to Chico bags. I have bought a few and the seams on all of them have started to unravel after only a few uses. But they were so convenient that I couldn't not use them. Now I will give the other brand a try and maybe give some as gifts if they work well. I wanted to give everyone I know who doesn't have one a Chico bag, but after mine started to fall apart I decided not to. I have many friends who still use plastic when they make a quick stop on the way home and I would love to give them an alternative, now maybe I can. It is important to question, but not to make impulsive accusations.
