Whole Foods ChicoBag

I designed the ChicoBag to fit in a pocket after I visited a local landfill here in Chico, California back in 2004. I was disgusted with all the unnecessary waste. What stuck out to me was all the plastic bags. They were blowing around, stuck on fences and tie-downs and the birds were pecking them. At that moment, I decided to start a CONSISTENT reusable bag habit. I had a habit of forgetting my canvas totes in my car! I knew I could design a bag that was easy to use and easy to remember. My design is strong, machine washable, colorful, hip and able to be with you all the time and especially when you least expect to need a bag. I started selling ChicoBags on Earth Day of 2005 in front of my local co-op. My motivation and goal is to help humanity kick the single-use bag habit and adopt a healthy reusable bag habit. This is the custom bag we made for Whole Foods.

Hi Andy - I love my Chico bags for their convenience but the seams are starting to come apart at the top of the handles. Another reviewer said that hers all came apart at the seams too -- what are you doing to resolve this? I know the material is difficult.

Hi Jenn,

First of all, thank you for telling us about your experience. This gives us the opportunity to take care of you. We warranty all of our bags and will repair or replace any defective ChicoBags. Please send an e-mail to info at ChicoBag dot com with your mailing address.

If we are unable to repair the bag, we will recycle it. We have a zero waste policy and have a rewarding recycling program expired ChicoBags. We work with a Women's Shelter in Pottsville, PA. They take the bags and make woven rugs and other products out of them. It is a win win win. I have uploaded a photo of one of the rugs to our Sustainlane Profile.

We are constantly improving the ChicoBag. Over the past 3 years have improved, the quality of the cording, the quality of the cord lock, switched from a plastic hook to a carabineer, improved the fabric quality and have improved the stitching in key stress points on the bag. Keep an eye on our website for more improvements in months to come.
