Description: Population 100,000. Home to 30,000 UC Berkeley students and staff, software businesses, Fat Slice and Chez Panisse. Jammed between Oakland and El Cerrito up against the East Bay hills.
Very, very shag.
Four Stars!! This is how I rate Berkeley's overall "greenness" in every category. What's great: marked bicycle boulevards and routes; 100% biodiesel "gas" stations; blocked streets (safe for biking/walking); biodiesel garbage hauling fleet; some PV/solar installations; community mindset of doing what is right. Oh, and two BART subway stations help commuters get to school and work. City carshare and zipcar have rental cars everywhere. This city is dark, forest green!
