Commuter Check
Description: Subsidizes public transit ridership in Bay Area.
money saved on public transit
The company I work for participates in Commuter Check. Basically, companies can subsidize their employees' public transit riding costs by buying commuter checks. You get them once a month, and you can get up to $105 in coupons for BART & Muni passes. The company can pay a certain amount, here it's $25 I think, and then the rest up to $105 is taken out of your pay pre-taxes.
I save $25 a month thanks to SustainLane paying, plus $80 of my additional transit costs are paid pre taxes which helps me out too. I ride BART from the east bay to SF every day, so I spend quite a bundle on BART every month and this helps me save money.
I encourage companies to participate, get your employees to ride public transit instead of drive! If the company you work for doesn't participate, then ask them to!
