Gluten-Free Sorghum Lager
Dragon's Gold crafted by Bard's Tale Beer has produced a tasty blonde, medium bitter, gluten-free lager beer. I bought a six-pack at a wine and beer tasting room, while traveling through Wolf Creek Oregon last weekend.
I was told that Dragon's Gold is the first 100% sorghum malt craft brew beer in the world. The tasting room manager highly recommended it, and of course my interest in trying it at all was that it didn't contain wheat, barley, rye or oats. I rarely drink beer, but I was curious enough to buy and try. I put it in the frig when I got home, but I didn't actually drink it until yesterday. I was surprised at how refreshing and smooth it tasted. The flavor of sorghum was present, but not overpowering. Dragon's Gold is considered a light beer, and the tasting notes say it's floral, hoppy and pleasant. The company was formed as a response to the overwhelming number of people in the US (1.5 million who are 21 years and older) who have Celiac Disease, gluten-intolerance, including the owners of Bard's Tale Beer.
