Description: Green bags that keep your produce fresh.
I put my lettuce in a ziplock bag and it got brown and unappetizing. It spoiled. On the other hand, i took some other lettuce and put it into a green bag. It came out fresh and crisp. Both were put into the bags at the same time, and both were opened at the same time. They were in the bags at least a week.

here's what they have written on the website. A sound bite tells us that they contain a mineral that absorbs the ethylene gas. They look great, but I minimize my use of plastic bags anyway that I can! Anyone know what mineral the bags are treated with?

How DEBBIE MEYER™ Green Bags® Work
Fruits, vegetables and flowers release ethylene gas while ripening after harvesting or picking. Ethylene gas accelerates ripening, aging and rotting. DEBBIE MEYER™ Green Bags® absorb and remove this damaging gas, dramatically extending the life of fruits, vegetables and flowers."

Hey Folks..i have been using the SAME group of bags for ONE YEAR now; i got them because of a past employer that would use them ONCE and throw them away! i go to the farmers market with a cooler (hot in S. CA), bring home the produce and do NOT wash it before i store it in the fridge. Berries, lettuce, carrots, squash, celery, green beans, peas, eggplant are not washed before storage. If i need to have lettuce washed, i reuse a container from the store bought EarthBound Farms and wash, spin dry and place paper towels between two layers (use them after the lettuce is gone-they are FINE!) of lettuce and it will last all week. The bags, well, i have had produce last THREE weeks in my produce bin in the fridge if they are tight and in the green bags! Seriously, i just rewash them, let them dry, and presto! i haven't freaked out about the plastic thing, despite their being plastic. i can only handle so much neurosis about it. i have never even been to the website to find out how they work-trusting i guess! However, i feel that they are a very worthwhile investment even though i got mine as castaways. Over ONE year and only two of them have ripped along the edges. i think that is a very long shelf life for some plastic...and i do not feel that i am being poisoned by them; like i said, being overly neurotic has its' own harmful effects.

I used the green bags on a fresh bunch of bananas with a new green bag but the bananas went bad after only 4 days. When I called to complain the little girl operater didn't help at all. If your going to have a product make sure it works before paying people to write good reviews.

To Carolyn:
Sorry to hear that your experience with the bags wasn't good; equally as frustrating that your complaint wasn't given credence. i have never contacted the company, nor am i paid by them, as you may have been insinuating in your post. i haven't tried them with bananas, but all the vegetables i have tried and had terrific results. I also have not tried the bags with flowers. Hope that they will reimburse you for your purchase, or possibly you will try them on other produce. GOOD LUCK!

Also to Carolyn:
The problem may also have been that you used them on bananas. I haven't personally used these bags, but I find that bananas rarely last as long as four days anyway. Bananas also ripen through an ethylene process, but because bananas have such thick skin, you might have better luck just hanging the bananas and letting the gas escape into the room. The best way to keep ethylene gas away from vegetables is to just let it air away in the open, but with some, such as lettuce or spinach, this is not an option. These bags seem to be for vegetables that need to be kept away from the air in the room.

I used the green bag for bananas and a bunch of the fruit and vergetables, The bananas is what really got my attention with the green bags! I bought the bananas yellow on Tuesday and today is Sunday and quess what they are still yello. Normally bananas go bad so quick and they last a whole lot longer. i would highly recommend the green bags I telll everybody about them that I know!
