Warehouse shopping for green foodies!

This business has the most amazing selection of spices, herbs and teas you could ever expect to find. The prices are incredibly reasonable. The catch? Everything is in 1 lb packages and most herbs & spices should be used within 6 months to ensure proper freshness and maximum effect.

Make sure you get your friends together so that you can divvy up the goods once you get them. Herbs and spices are best stored in glass jars, not plastic containers or bags.

The price on cloves is what got me most excited -- 16 oz of cloves for about twice what you pay for 2 oz of organic cloves elsewhere. You know what you can do with all those cloves?

Homemade Veggie stock: stud some nice big white organic onions with about 50 cloves to add to a pot of other veggies. Way cheaper than buying veggie stock in non-recyclable asceptic cartons and you can adjust to your taste (like leaving out the devil's weed, aka celery). Veggie stock freezes well in emptied pint ice cream containers which you can just tear off (and put in the green compost bin) when you are ready to use for cooking.

Make your own chai - here's my boyfriend's recipe, it works great - just remember to vary according to the strength of the spices (sometimes the green cardamom tastes stronger):

4 cups of milk of your choice (1 box of vanilla almond milk works great and it's pre-sweetened just enough)
8 cardamom pods
2.5 in piece of cinnamon (about double thumb size quantity)
4 white peppercorns
5 cloves
3 thin slices of fresh ginger (powdered works ok, too)
4-6 assam tea bags (English Breakfast - even decaf - is works)

If you use almond milk just heat to steaming, put the lid on and let steep -- packaged almond milk has a bad habit of separating when it's boiled on the stove.
