Comments on Jordana's review of Two Small Farms
Description: Two Small Farms is a collaboration between High Ground Organics and Mariquita Farm in Watsonville and Hollister. They grow organic specialty vegetables, greens, strawberries, flowers, and herbs for CSA members.
I love Two Small Farms!
I've been receiving Two Small Farms' weekly box of produce along with a bouquet of flowers for a month now. I have talked with employees there a couple of times on the phone and a couple of times by email -- I love how small the operation is and how friendly and helpful the staff are.
Anyway -- the veggies are fresh and tasty, the flowers beautiful and long-lasting, the strawberries more delicious than any I've ever had (and I'm originally from the nation's strawberry belt!), and the price very affordable. For my one month trial, I pay $30 a week for a massive box of produce, + $10/week for the flowers.
Unfortunately, I live in the Marina (don't judge me! you wouldn't pass up the deal either!) ... and they don't have any pickups near me. So it's a bit of a haul for me to get my food and flowers every week. I guess Marina people don't support CSAs?? No idea.

Hi. Are you based in California or in Baltimore? I thought that Two Small Farms was a Monterey thing.

We've been subscribing two Two Small Farms for more than a year. We love the wide variety of vegetables that they drop off for us. The Farms have deals with a number of other farmers, so we're always getting things like washed, bagged lettuce, string beans, etc. The flower service costs extra, but you get very nice organic flowers (which smell better but go bad faster).
This week we got a lot of basil, so we made pesto.
The best thing about the boxes is that the strange variety of vegetables means that we end up making (and eating) food that we would have never imagined. We got a whole bunch of tomatillos last year, so I learned how to make a killer salsa. We got beets --- what do you do with beets --- and I guess we enjoyed them. We love the Swiss Chard. All in all, it's been an excellent learning experience.
The strawberries are good, but they are a bit small. Very juicy.
We are fortunate. Living in Monterey County, we're very close to where the farms actually are. There is a drop-off spot about 2 blocks from our house.
