The Kid's Menu... for grown-ups
By far the most popular booth at the Green Fest this year was Veggie Bites. At least for anyone who had kids.
I'd been wanting to try their sustaining stuff since I'd read about them in the Chicago Reader. Now was my chance.
The menu is junk-like food. Hot dogs, BBQ nuggets, Tacos... you get the idea. Kids aren't going to wait in line for lemon grass rice rice & braised tofu. Niether are people with the munchies.
I tried both the Taco and the BBQ nuggets. The taco didn't cop-out by being just beans. it had that good mouth-feel the a carefully considered variety of ingredients has.
The nuggets satisfied as well. Tofu or sietan, I'm not sure. Deep-fried, not crunchy, not chewy. Flavored on their own they were fine. Dipped in a thick tomatoey spicy BBQ sauce with the right spice of chili. They would by my choice to bring to a pot-luck and yell "A-Ha! You're eating Veggies!", They're appealing to all.
