The Shelter Pet Project

by Ben DeVries
At least three million healthy, treatable and lovable pets are put down each year in the U.S., simply for lack of homes. In covering this staggering breach of trust which companion animals have placed in us, I wrote in a previous post, the thought of such persistent and gratuitous waste of precious lives makes my own mind race and my heart sick. And I know I'm not alone. I also know this is a reality which God grieves as well, having created each and every one of those individual lives and... Read More »

The percentage of Americans who see global warming as a significant problem is declining sharply – down to 35% from 44% in 2008. This is a clear call for environmental stewards to step up to the plate. But how?

Questions Evangelicals Ask About the Environment

Questions Evangelicals Ask About the Environment

Fellow evangelicals often pose loaded questions that typically attempt to make a point rather than seek an answer. It's time for that practice to stop and for the church to seek genuine answers to the many significant environmental problems and questions that we ignore at our peril.

The Words We Use

The Words We Use

America is fractured by a political divide. The media responds by pitting environmentalists and Christians against each other. Is it possible we are all fundamentally alike, only speaking different languages? We may never know unless more of us learn how to translate.

You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me, Part 1

At first glance, old Fashion idolatry, it would seem, has fallen out of fashion in this age. Yet, idolatry animates this age. We have fashioned ourselves golden calves in money, fame, power, sex, and prestige. These idols do a funny thing to the modern man and the creation.

About Creation Care

If you’re following the environmental movement, you have a growing awareness of the collaborative efforts by both the Judeo and Christian communities to promote environmental stewardship and ministry, most often referred to as Creation Care. Green Movement, Blue Movement - Consider Creation Care touches on the need for both conservatives and progressives to collaborate with other environmentalists in a non-partisan atmosphere of love, tolerance and faith.

On SustainLane’s Creation Care page, you will find links to a growing body of content provided by SustainLane contributors: peer reviews, blogs and news that cover a myriad of creation care topics and controversies related to the greening of faith and environmental stewardship that began in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve.

The greening of Judeo-Christian faith is the rediscovery of a personal relationship with God’s creation and to restore the Earth’s ecosystem for future generations. According to Genesis 2:15, “The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and care for it”. Social activism is also a key component of caring for all of God’s creation.. The Green Bible, highlighting relevant Old Testament and New Testament scriptures including the words of Jesus Christ in green, as well as many other faith-based books written on the topic of creation care, discuss the shift toward a green theology, which brings full circle mankind’s role to protect and nurture all that God has created, as He intended from the beginning.

SustainLane is an inclusive, online green community for finding and sharing sustainable solutions. A place where creation care advocates can talk openly with other environmentalists about engaging in the work of healing and sustaining creation. Online social networking is a powerful social media tool for those interested in the creation care movement to keep the dialogue going to discover new and betters ways to collaborate on solutions that will: stop human suffering and trafficking, improving the health of people all over the world by addressing their real not perceived needs, educating and providing hands-on help to restore people and their land to a better, more sustainable way of life.

Creation care ministries are diversified in their projects to address specific needs regarding poverty, hunger, poor health, agriculture, farming and soil conditions, deforestation, mountaintop removal, dependency on fossil fuels, diminishing wilderness areas and wildlife, as well as taking faith-based political action to endorse initiatives that work to conserve water, find renewable energy solutions and protect our planet’s finite natural resources.

Creation Care is considered to be a moral responsibility and spiritual responsibility. Faith-based environmental groups, ministries and organizations like Care of Creation, Inc., Floresta and Let’s Tend the Garden to name only a few, are heeding a call to action to save the environment, and save the people. Caring for souls and caring for the environment goes hand-in-hand. Sierra Club calls it Faith In Action.

SustainLane’s Creation Care page provides an opportunity for everyone, including evangelicals concerned with over-consumption and global warming and other Creation Care ministers, leaders, educators and authors seeking a safe place to share opinions, knowledge, resources or to spread the word about other vitally important environmental issues and efforts.

SustainLane welcomes all those who are on a quest to learn about sustainability, conscious consumerism, green living and earth care. SustainLane’s Creation Care experts will try to answer your toughest questions. Writing comments on other member’s posts provides welcome feedback and helps to build community around the topic of environmental stewardship. As you explore Creation Care and the rest of SustainLane, you will also discover thousands of valuable resources and helpful tips for living a greener lifestyle and faith.
