Recycle and Compost

Denver offers free curbside recycling to single family homes in Denver. Register for this service and help us reach our landfill waste diversion goal of 30% by 2012. If each household composted and recycled their waste – food and lawn - we could reduce the amount of solid waste going to landfills by over 75%. Denver has started a compost pilot for 1,000 homes, but you can begin to compost on your own. Consider taking a free compost class offered through the Denver Parks & Recreation department. Visit their website for a schedule. (Take a pic of yourself bringing a load out to the curb or composter!)

Recycling materials requires less energy and fewer raw materials than creating a new product from scratch. Take reusable cloth bags to the store, don't accept paper and plastic bags when you really don't need them, and choose products that don't have excessive packaging.
