Claude Turmes has been an MEP in the Green/EFA Group in the European Parliament since 1999, and a Vice-President of the group since 2002. He is responsible for the coordination of energy policy within the group and he was Parliament's rapporteur on the second directive on the liberalisation of the energy market and the directive for the promotion of renewable energy in Europe. He has also launched the concept of "Energy Intelligent Europe" with the aim of promoting European initiatives in the area of energy efficiency along with the establishment of a European Agency for energy efficiency.
