UrbanGoGreen and 369th Harlem Armory partner to present the 2nd Annual UrbanGoGreen Expo
UrbanGoGreen partners with private sector, government, non-government and community-based organizations to present the 2nd Annual UrbanGoGreen Expo taking place from 10am-6pm on Saturday, October 24th through Sunday, October 25th at the 369th Harlem Armory located at 40 West 143 Street. The 2009 UrbanGoGreen Expo features new pavilions like the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Pavilion, which shows attendees how to upgrade to green, save money and create jobs in their communities; the Healthy Family Pavilion which focuses on healthy living strategies for parents and their children; and the Recycling and Bartering Pavilion which allows community members to exchange clothing, accessories and other reusable items. The Expo will also include live performances, a vintage fashion show and a green economy expert panel discussion on topics ranging from wellness to jobs and business opportunities in the green sector. The expo floor will be broken up into seven main pavilions:
1. Green Jobs, Careers and Entrepreneurship;
2. Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency;
3. Green Building and Real Estate;
4. Green Product and Services;
5. Healthy Family;
6. Recycling and Bartering; and
7. Urban Green Culture and Lifestyle.
The two day UrbanGoGreen Expo is an entertaining and engaging program that targets diverse and active parents, home-owners, business professionals and students. The purpose of the expo is to create high brand visibility for vendors, advertisers and sponsors while popularizing eco-consciousness and sustainability in New York's urban center. With a theme of "Greening the Culture", the 2009 UrbanGoGreen Expo is designed to raise public awareness about the environment, promote opportunities in the green economy and introduce eco-friendly products and services to attendees. The UrbanGoGreen Expo will serve as a unifying initiative between the public and private sectors to promote "going green" in a fun, entertaining and interactive manner.
"At its core the expo is designed to promote value based consumerism in urban communities. People aren't just simply going to go green; we are going to have to sell them on upgrading their lives to green. Our goal is to serve as a platform for green brands to more effectively market their products in ways that are culturally relevant to the urban consumer market. In addition to promoting value based consumerism, recycling and carbon footprint reduction in urban America, the expo keenly focuses on what attendees really need, jobs and opportunities to save money on the energy bills." says Duval Osiris James. James created UrbanGoGreen after attending the launch of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development at the United Nations in 2005 where he saw the need for the urban consumer to have a voice in this important conversation.
The 2009 UrbanGoGreen Expo is free for youth under 18 and students with ID and $10.00 for adults. High school and college students, job seekers, professionals, entrepreneurs, parents and all those interested in learning more about eco-living and the green economy are invited to attend. Attendees are encouraged to bring their resumes to this event as there will be opportunities to apply for jobs on the spot.
