Description

The School of Engineering at James Madison University is searching for a new faculty member to join their exciting new undergraduate Engineering degree program with a focus on sustainability and engineering design. They are seeking applicants at the Assistant/Associate level with a wide range of undergraduate teaching, scholarship (including engineering education scholarship), and curriculum development interests. A PhD in engineering, or a relevant doctorate with significant experience in an engineering setting, is required of all applicants.

Responsibilities
This new and innovative engineering program provides students with coursework in engineering science, engineering design, systems analysis, sustainability, project management, and engineering business practices. Students complete a multi-year experiential design curriculum that includes integrating technical, financial, environmental, and societal aspects of sustainability into engineering design solutions while demonstrating effective oral and written interpersonal communication skills and mastery of the basic engineering sciences. Graduates of the program will demonstrate the skills needed to design and develop products, processes, and systems that simultaneously protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and meet human needs. Students will also be prepared to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam upon graduation. Qualifications
The successful candidate must demonstrate that they can function as a team member within an interdisciplinary program. Essential elements in developing this new program include the development of a unique culture and character among the faculty and students that includes creativity, flexibility and innovation. Demonstrated experience in innovative undergraduate teaching, providing meaningful research experiences for undergraduates, new program development, and course/curriculum design and assessment (along with a familiarity with the ABET assessment process) is preferred.
