Position Description
Working with the director of business development, the business programs development manager will be responsible for managing the people & resources related to the day-to-day functioning of the business development team. This person conducts business planning and analysis work to maintain and improve existing programs, such as zero waste event services and commercial composting, as well as to develop new revenue generating zero waste programs based on the organization’s strategic direction. Teamwork and coordination are key elements for success in this job and the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the finance, operations, customer service and communications teams to ensure the delivery of services that fit into the organizations structure, mission and goals. A strong understanding of financial projections, revenue models and cash flow will be needed to implement programs during a time of tight budgets and economic uncertainty.

Responsibilities
1. Manage key organizational programs (specifically the zero waste event services and restaurant/commercial composting services) within the organizational budget.
2. Manage business programs development staff for these programs.
3. Coordinate communication and decision-making among the customer service, finance, operations, communications and business development teams to meet the program objectives and provide comprehensive services to customers.
4. Analyze the social, environmental, and economic impacts of business opportunities and make objective analyze other business development opportunities to the organization’s senior management team. Conduct business planning and market analysis. Work with the business development team to write and present business plans (including financial projections) for current and new business ideas identified through the organizations strategic planning work.
5. Analyze customer requests for service and direct staff to conduct sales calls. Manage initial customer expectations (via good customer service) for new and prospective customers.
6. Provide potential and existing customers with logistical consultation and analysis i.e. conducting site visits to prospective customers to analyze waste, recycling and compostable streams and quantify opportunities for diversion.
7. Work with the finance team to improve, develop, and implement systems for tracking, reporting and billing.
8. Assist the Business Development Director to administer contracts for commercial recycling customers and to develop and maintain relationships with third-party haulers to ensure excellent customer service, reliable delivery of services provided, competitive pricing, and retention of customer base.
9. Assist the business development director in the marketing of recyclable commodities to existing markets and ensure competitive pricing.
10. Other duties, projects as assigned.

Qualifications
1. Five years of experience in managing business programs development for a social entrepreneurial organization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer experience with an environmentally focused organization.
2. Three years of supervision and staff development experience.
3. BS/BA degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
4. Effective analytical and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to create financial projections and understand an organizational budget.
5. Ability to build teams, mentor staff, and to make decisions effectively with others in a team based environment.
6. Proven effective skills in public speaking and presentation, interpersonal and written communications.
7. Prefer experience with logistical analysis related to business “waste” materials i.e. waste audits.
8. Experience successfully balancing multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail under minimal supervision.
9. Accomplished computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database skills.
10. Extensive knowledge of and a personal interest about the environment and resource conservation issues with a commitment to working with community-based organizations and a culturally diverse constituency.
