Position Overview:
This position will oversee operations for the Global Conservation Program of the Wildlife Conservation Society. The primary objective is to provide management leadership and direction to initiatives that support the efficient operation of the Global Conservation Program across its field and New York-based activities, ranging from financial management to human resources to communications. The position is based at the WCS headquarters at the Bronx Zoo in New York City.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage activities related to budget planning and management, and development and implementation of management policies and procedures.
- Lead in the development of an internal communications strategy for the division, improving communications between and among globally deployed staff.
- Represent the Division on the development and implementation of effective and comprehensive communications strategies in support of our conservation mission and activities, including establishment of a new website as a top priority.
- Oversee the creation of effective and standardized emergency preparedness and evacuation plans for field programs.
- In coordination with WCS Human Resources, review and as necessary streamline international compensation plan, including benefits programs.
- Create efficient systems for the collection and synthesis of information about the activities of the Global Program for use by both Public Affairs and Development.
- Establish and implement efficient and sensible structures in support of the One WCS transformation. Coordinate with support divisions including Human Resources, Budget and Finance, Office of the General Counsel, Development, and Public Affairs, and IT.
- Coordinate activities with staff in other mission divisions, including Global Health Program.
- Oversee and contribute to the general administration, financial management, and daily administrative operations of the Office of Global Conservation.
- Oversee and direct special projects and initiatives related to the efficient management and operation of the Global Conservation Program, as needed.
- Represent the Global Conservation Program as requested by the SVP at professional meetings and conferences, inside and outside WCS.
- Contribute to, enlarge and uphold the Society's policies towards Equal Employment Opportunities for women, minorities, veterans, the handicapped and other protected groups
Qualifications:
- 5 years administration and management experience, with strong preference for non-profit experience and working with staff globally.
- A Masters degree in a relevant field: business; communications; MPA; management.
- Demonstrated ability to organize. Able to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
- Adaptable self-starter and self-manager with ability to set priorities and efficiently use time.
- Experience building teams and leading initiatives in both supervisory and non-supervisory (coordinating) roles.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to synthesize and critically analyze information.
- Commitment to conservation and the mission of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
- Excellent contemporary computer skills. Familiarity with office software including: word processing, database/spreadsheet, and such presentation software as PowerPoint. Proficiency in Email and internet applications. Able to work on Windows and Macintosh platforms as necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. A good sense of humor and commitment to building constructive working relationships to solve challenging problems.
- Proficiency in Spanish or French a plus.
