Description
The mission of the Conservancy is to "conserve, sustain and connect natural areas, lands and waters that make the places we live special." However, as our mission reflects, through cooperative partnerships, education and the development of green infrastructure we believe that our work has an effect far beyond any political boundaries. Our work area takes in Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer and Genesee Counties, focusing on land within the six watersheds of the Flint, Belle, Huron, Rouge, Clinton and Shiawassee Rivers.
The land we protect and steward is very diverse, ranging from pristine and undisturbed natural areas in rural parts to fragmented ecosystems in the heavily urbanized areas of the various counties. We believe that all are essential to the quality of life and the economic viability in the communities we serve.
Responsibilities:
Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy is seeking an individual to serve as our next Executive Director. Responsibilities include:
- Management of staff, volunteers and daily operations, including financial and asset management;
- Assisting the Board with development of long-term goals, including strategic planning and our upcoming application for land trust accreditation;
- Design and implementation of multiple conservation projects, including acquisition of land and easements and stewardship of existing conserved lands; and
- Cultivation of relationships with funders at all levels, including management of large, collaborative grant-funded projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in biology, botany, conservation, land use planning, wildlife management/zoology, natural resources, outdoor education, environmental education, and/or business; 5 years experience in a related nonprofit or for-profit environmental management position and a working knowledge of the theories, practices, principles and techniques of land trusts, conservation and natural areas stewardship.
Compensation: This is a full-time position. The salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and competitive for similar positions in the region.
