Description
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership for the Conservancy on growth management and related environmental issues in Southwest Florida . Reports to and is supervised by the Governmental Relations Manager.
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to the conservation of biodiversity, environmental quality, and natural resources.
- Strong training and experience in community outreach, growth management, land use planning, and conservation policy development.
- Bachelor's degree required in environmental policy planning or natural sciences, with Masters Degree preferred.
- Work experience in environmental conservation, developing and leading community efforts and an understanding of growth management and land use planning.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with individuals of diverse interests and backgrounds.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a satellite office.
- Willing to work variable hours and to travel within the Southwest Florida counties covered by the Conservancy.
- Experience in drafting and advocating environmental legislation a plus.
Knowledge of the environment in south Florida is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and coordinate reports, conferences, and other activities related to community outreach on conservation public policy.
- Develop and implement community outreach programs and grassroots advocacy efforts through a network of citizens concerned about conservation issues.
- Represent the Conservancy at relevant government and civic meetings regarding conservation issues of interest to the organization.
- Comment and testify on behalf of the Conservancy at local, state, and federal public hearings when requested.
- Develop position statements on relevant issues for ratification by the Conservancy Board.
- Propose innovative public policy solutions to conservation problems of interest to the Conservancy.
- Contribute to the "Eye on the Issues" newsletter.
- Provide public policy assistance to other agencies and organizations involved in growth management and research activities as requested.
- Review proposed legislation, position papers, and testimony.
- Maintain code of ethics and confidentiality of all donor records and Conservancy confidential information.

Compensation:
Compensation is commensurate with experience. Full benefits package including health, dental and disability insurance, and 401(k).
