Description
BlueMap is a start-up sustainability research firm. We help mid-size companies like hotels, breweries, and commercial office buildings develop green business strategies and assess the value of clean tech acquisitions.
We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to build a web-based tool that helps us assess a company's environmental impact. We'd like someone with experience building both compelling front-ends and stable back-end databases, from the ground up. The position would begin as a month long contractor position. When the prototype is a success, the developer would ideally become our CTO/Senior Developer.
Responsibilities
The goal of the first month is to produce a functional prototype, so speed of implementation is important. You will be responsible for all aspects of the development of this web service -- site design, implementation, as well as the initial operational aspects -- system administration and operations, working with hosted solution vendors and so on.
We are open to the choice of underlying technology (e.g. Ruby on Rails, etc.), so in your response please tell us what technologies you would choose and why.
Qualifications
Analysis Skills:
* Ability to understand business needs and lead the technical implementation
* Ability to follow functional specifications and translate into code
* Ability to design the system and database schemas
* Respond responsibly to aggressive deadlines
Technical Skills:
* Exposure to end-to-end software development including conceptualizing, designing, developing, launching and maintaining consumer web applications;
* Strong web application development programming skills; PHP, Python, and Ruby are a plus Javascript UI experience;
* Relational database/SQL design and maintenance;
* Experience debugging and designing for performance.
Compensation
Initially, we are looking to retain someone on a contract basis. We expect it to take approximately one month of full time work to develop the first tool.
Ideally, however, we would like to find a developer that is interested in joining the team full time, as the Senior Software Architect. We will discuss this possibility after the initial contract work is completed, but we would certainly like to know if a more permanent role excites you.
