In response to this growing demand from government entities for guidance in their science, technology, and innovation policies and investments, the Academy has developed an advisory program that leverages our science and technology expertise. Our current activities include advisory alliances with New York State and the Mexico City governments as well as ongoing discussions with governments in India, China, Brazil, Argentina, and others.

JOB TITLE: Manager, Innovation and Sustainability

DEPARTMENT: Innovation and Sustainability

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Innovation and Sustainability

Responsibilities
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for tracking the innovation and sustainability topics and for providing and presenting the background research necessary for assessing and describing the current state of sustainable science and technology within a local, regional or national context and presenting recommendations on how to best leverage these assets to maximize economic development within a client’s region. Although the focus has been on sustainable technology, the candidate should be comfortable working in the broader area of science and technology.

With activities in Europe, Latin America, and Asia, the role will provide the opportunity to work closely with a wide range of global projects for governments seeking strategic planning assistance to maximize economic development impact.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Remain current on innovation and sustainability related topics. Assist in scoping and outlining new projects as well as in managing and executing on the project deliverables. Participate in interviews with subject matter experts across industry, academia, and government to develop and/or confirm an understanding of the current state of sustainable science and technology in the client’s region. Participate and potentially present background research in facilitated sessions with cross-functional groups to develop and confirm business processes. Background research may include defining process or process improvement goals, collecting data to develop indicators and identify key process indicators (KPI’s); analyzing current state to identify trends, bottlenecks, efficiencies, and cost savings; conducting best practices research and perform benchmarking on existing models of innovation and public/private partnerships; and developing and presenting “Roadmap” of recommendations for how to best leverage existing science and technology assets for maximum economic development gain. Although the focus will be on sustainable science and technology, the candidate should be comfortable with projects involving other areas of science and technology as well.

Qualifications
Bachelors degree and either a Masters degree in an area related to sustainable science or at least two years experience in policy research, program coordination, project management or consulting work required. Excellent written, oral and presentation skills required.

The ideal candidate will have a technical background; experience in the clean technology and economic development fields. Candidate should be prepared to travel extensively, depending on projects.

Compensation
Salary: $44K - $60K
