REMSA Inc. (http://www.remsainc.com) is seeking experienced, highly motivated, and results oriented Technical Editor to fill an immediate opening in Gloucester, MA. Candidates should be familiar with the Northeast fisheries’ stock assessments and reporting procedures and systems required of the fishing industry by state and federal mandates. Prior experience managing and editing large databases and providing logistical support for meetings is essential. Prior experience working with Federal government agencies will be useful to carrying out job functions. We are looking for team players who can work independently with minimal supervision towards meeting team goals and objectives.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The contractor will support the region’s stock assessment process by organizing and executing logistics for stock assessment meetings, ensuring smooth support operations for meetings, and performing travel and timekeeping tasks for the client's department chair.
Logistics for Stock Assessment Meetings
- Reserve appropriate meeting space for length of stock assessment meeting
- Work with data management and facility support staff to ensure correct stock assessment meeting room set-up.
- Determine any special support needs for attendees and ensure accommodations are made and that attendees are advised of what will and will not be available onsite.
- Manage travel for invited stock assessment meeting participants.
- Ensure security clearance of foreign nationals invited to attend stock assessment meetings
- Manage pre-meeting documentation – for example, agenda, attendees list & working papers to ensure appropriate availability (online and in hard copy) prior to and during meetings.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned by department chair relevant to organizing and conducting stock assessment meetings.
- Management of Manuscript System and Assessment Meeting Documentation
- Conduct daily monitoring and maintenance of manuscript management system. The system is online, and its basis is a master database (Microsoft Access) which archives and triggers transactions concerning internal review of works by scientists prior to public release.
- Update the manuscript “Review Update” webpage as necessary.
- Work with Editor to establish procedures and division of labor for managing stock assessment meeting documentations to ensure efficient production of final reports.
- Other duties as assigned by the Editor relevant to ensuring smooth production of final stock assessment meeting reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass a federal background screening in order to receive security clearance due to the sensitive nature of this position.
Must be a U.S. citizen
Education: Minimum: Associate’s Degree or certificate from an accredited program (Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree). Relevant experience can substitute for education.
Experience: 2-3 years in a similar role providing logistics support and database management
Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Access & Excel (database management)
- Familiar with the scientific process
- Familiarity with Federal travel procedures
- Familiarity with Federal procurement procedures
- Time Management, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills are imperative
- High level skills in organizing logistics for working meetings and managing documentation in various forms.
- Ability to meet/exceed tight deadlines
- Proficiency with word programs is required
- Proficiency and speed in data entry/typing skills are required
- Ability to use office equipment is required
- Ability to learn and follow very precise protocols in order to complete job functions is a must
