I read that Oregon currently allows bans on clotheslines in areas maintained by individual homeowners: http://tinyurl.com/n8w5wo. We use an Energy Star dryer, but now I want to buy a clothesline to improve our own energy saving efforts and take a personal stand against clothesline bans. My husband agreed with me, and soon returned with an old RV clothesline he found buried in a storage box. Clothesline recycled, money saved, energy saved, and my stand against the ban is literally on the line!

Nice. Thanks for sharing, Cris!

The ban is ridiculous. I can understand bans on areas that are visible from the street, since many some that this is an eyesore that brings down property value. But bans in areas maintained by homeowners?

Another alternative is this great device that I first saw in a hotel in Japan. Looks like a metal bicycle bell and installs on one wall of your bathroom (or laundry room). Pull to extract a laundry line and hooks into a small nub on the other wall. Simple to install, and out of the way while you're not using it. You can buy them at the local hardware stores here too! I was going to put one of these up but since our shower pan goes all the way up, ended up opting for an extra shower curtain rod. Tension-held so no assembly needed!
