Cleveland / Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (& Compost)

Cleveland is glad you’re here! Each challenge you complete is a small step for Cleveland… and a giant leap for the planet. Take a picture of yourself completing the challenge below. Upload the photo here, and you’ll be entered into this week’s drawing. Then come right back and do it again.

Instructions:

Recycling materials requires less energy and fewer raw materials than creating a new product from scratch. Take reusable cloth bags to the store, don't accept paper and plastic bags when you really don't need them, and choose products that don't have excessive packaging.

Another CWRU student taking the local challenge! Duncan has started composting at home. Between composting and recycling, he never has to take the garbage out!

We've been composting all of our food waste (minus meat) for over 4 years. Here is a picture of this year's Halloween jack-o-lanterns in our compost bin - they were starting to get a little to mushy to keep in the house!

I take my stainless mug for hot beverages and my glass previously enjoyed Synergy bottle (I like the taste of water in glass) everywhere I go. I refill my Synergy bottle with water and my mug with tea or coffee. I also have reusable containers I take to restaurants for my left overs instead of take aways.

We collect our veg scraps in a little ceramic container that we keep on the kitchen counter and empty it into our composter which is enclosed so no rodents can get in or smells come out, and it spins so the food breaks down into a nice soil amendment in about a week.
