Colorado Springs / Shop Local

Colorado Springs is glad you’re here! Each challenge you complete is a small step for Colorado Springs… and a giant leap for the planet. Take a picture of yourself completing the challenge below. Upload the photo here, and you’ll be entered into this week’s drawing. Then come right back and do it again.

Instructions:

Visit a nearby farmer’s market or store selling locally-produced food. Veggies and fruits that haven't traveled hundreds or thousands of miles to get to your table not only cut down on emissions, but taste great too.

(Snap a shot of yourself with a local farmer or grocer or with the delicious meal you prepared with locally-grown food and upload it).

OK - it's not a total photo of me, (just me giving a thumbs up) which would be kind of hard with my cell phone, but I do shop at Sammy's Organics fairly regularly. They are great and went from a small space to a larger shop, which tells me, they are in demand. That's a good thing, They have amazing curried turkey salad too!.

So I needed 1 silly onion for the backyard last minute hamburgers Saturday afternoon….. luckily I have a farmers stand less than a mile from my house. I didn’t have to deal with a grocery store on a Saturday, and I got a recipe for banana squash while I was there!!!

So my sister and I just had to stop here!! Horton is our maiden name and we were curious as to where his land was and what Horton descendants they were. We chatted a few minutes and Lynn decided on some peaches for the ride and I got some squash for a casserole. They were a bargain for the size. And oh so fresh !!!

I picked up four Grant Farms (local) organic pumpkins. Pictured is "Dinner in a Pumpkin" prepared for Halloween night.

My husband and I went to the Farmer's Market in Old Colorado City. It is one of my favorite Saturday morning activities. And Ryan's favorite saturday morning activity is the hot steak and eggs breakfast we treat ourselves to after walking around the market.

Here's Heather picking up our family's food from the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), which is from Grant Farms--a Colorado farmer. What's great about this is it costs about $7 per week for more veggies than you can eat and we pick it up in town once per week. Every week, we have more fresh local produce than you can shake a stick at!
