Keep the Vacuum in the Broom Closet

Well . . . at least for a week or two. This doesn't take the place of a vacuum (it doesn't pick up everything) but it delays the need to set up and plug in and keeps the floors looking pretty good. It's nonelectric so you're saving energy and money by using it and it's super easy to use and sturdy. It works best on a medium to high pile but it works well enough on my extra low pile carpets and wood floors.

Kids and Parents Need This Book

A Hot Planet Needs Cool Kids, by Julie Hall, is a must have for parents and their kids in this time of climate change. The book offers a proactive, positive message and challenges kids and their schools and families to tackle climate change with new thinking and wide-ranging strategies. Hot Planet is full of information and connections and ideas, and it's been endorsed by Bill McKibben, U.S. Congressman Jay Inslee, and the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. I know all this because I'm co-founder of Green Goat Books, the publisher of Hot Planet.
