I discovered Portland Oregon based Livin' Spoonful's vegan, raw, sprouted crackers at KIVA in Eugene. Besides crackers they make Hummus. They've been making their raw food products since 2002. Their website gives retail locations where you can shop for their products.
Because they take raw ingredients and dehydrate them at a low temperature, the enzymes and nutritional value are very high. I like their handmade products because they are fresh, lively, and gluten-free. You can eat their cracker products plain, as a snack, use them with dips or spreads or crumbly them onto a salad. The packages come with four medium-size wafers, maybe 3'X3"). They do crumble easy, so once you open the bag, you'll want to store your crackers in a sealable bag or container to avoid having crumbs everywhere and to keep them fresh.

There are tempehs I don't care much for, but Surata Tempeh is consistently, exceptionally good! Surata tempeh has a long shelf life (in the refrigerator, up to a month), and freezes well. I stock up to have a variety on hand, especially for those times I need a quick and easy meal before our B&B guests arrive. On the back of the tempeh package you will find delicious recipes; check for many more online. The co-mingling of textures and flavors are absolutely terrific.
Surata's "Indian Feast" is a blend of their Curry Lentil Tempeh and cubes potatoes cooked to a golden brown. To this you add cashews, apple, onion, carrot, celery, garlic, ginger, coriander, peas, green beans, raisins, cauliflower, cumin, curry, garam marsala, and vegetable broth. This fragrant and spicy dish is served ona bed of rice.
I hope listing this banquet of ingredients 'tempehs' you to try it, if you haven't already!
[Tempeh ingredients: organic non-GMO soybeans, water, land organic: lentils, rice, millet, vinegar, herbs, spices, and tempeh culture].

Since 1977, Suarta has manufactured high quality, nutritious tofu products. Great protein alternatives, low in saturated fat and cholesterol, tofu and tempeh are known to benefit the heart and lower blood pressure. The website provides cooking tips and terrific recipes. On the back of the tempeh packaging you will find excellent recipes, as well. For those with a busy lifestyle, with little time to prepare and cook meals, Surata Soy Food products makes cooking a nutritious and delicious meal "Quick & Easy"! Check out my Curry Lentil Tempeh review.
[Note: Surata's site also addresses some of the concerns and myths about human consumption of soybean and soy-based products.]

Jenn's given you the scoop on Gypsy Cold Care, so I'll simply tell you why I recommend this product: it's like comfort food; I just like to drink it for the cozy-down feeling it gives me. I don't get colds, but I like the taste of this tea so much that I drink it often, and its my first suggestion for cold care to another gypsy that does!

These Cherrybrook Kitchen, almost everything-free, fudge brownies are a snap to make and bake! Just add margarine, water and oil to the mix and bake for 12-14 minutes. They are tasty, very moist, and not too sweet. Made with rice flour and non-dairy chocolate chips. There is soy, however.
They have a "sweet rewards" program, so save the bottom flap of your mix boxes (3-100) to redeem them for prizes to give one of your favorite little persons you know!

I have seen these packaged mixes in the store but I have not bought them because I want to avoid the soy...I've been a big fan of another brand for a while, but try to keep them out of my pantry (it's too easy to make... more »

I only bake this kind of stuff for family gatherings and for guest, otherwise I'd be tempted to eat at least one a day! Tragic to eat them all in one binging frenzy! more »
The Ecocity World Summit 2008, must have been filled with exhilarating dialog, creative problem solving with solutions we are anxious to hear. So, if you attended, or have heard through the grapevine what transpired there, I/we would love to read your review of the conference. What were the outcomes of this international gathering?

Get in line to install your Toyota Prius L5 Plug-In Conversion Module. Why? Technology has advanced to a rechargable, high-powered, Nanophoshate (TM) lithium ion battery. And, with that you get 10 times the performance...averaging 100 mpg/30-40 miles. A $1000 deposit is now being taken. This leaves a balance of $8995, plus the taxes and a $400 destination fee. Included is the Installation and a standard 3 year warranty. Besides the price, the other catch is that delivery and installation won't begin until September of this year, 2008. Once you place a deposit, you'll select a Green CHIP (A123 Green Certified Hymotion Installer Partner) dealer location, then wait. But, installation isn't that far off, if you are near the top of the queue.

Congratulations! GO GREEN GORILLA!
I like it! I learned something I didn't know anything about. And, I think this is going to be a great venue for reaching the youth, giving them a great message they can share with their peers and family! Our kids are inheriting a planet in crisis...they will be the ones to restore and sustain it. Its now our responsibility to give them the knowledge and the tools they need to be our future change-makers.
These are the suggestions I've made:
Hopefully, this animated series is leading to table-top, computer and online games and educational tools, whether at home or school, to learn about all the other topics I assume GG will be addressing: climate change, waste reduction, pollution, water quality, renewable energy and conservation, sustainability, activism...
I'd like to see them create a Green Glossary, updating it with each episode.
I would like to know what age group they are targeting? On my monitor, the font on the website is way too small for young viewers..and old for that matter! LOL I would do a check for red/green color-blindness.
There is too much information crowded into some paragraphs - small bites better. Also, some of the language (vocabulary) is far too sophisticated for young viewers: example: Meet the GANG: "terse language"...text should be written for 3-5 grade level comprehension.
I suggested they should inform consumers about the content of their retail GG Stuff, including why they are eco-friendly. A factoid will support why its a better choice for the environment.
I'm looking forward to sharing the next episode with my young friends!

I've found that not all Annie's products are created equal, most are great. I especially like Annie's Mac & Cheese products for a quick-fix meal - for me, especially the gluten-free. When I have a Mac Attack, I grab a box from my pantry; in minutes I have a tasty entree to satisfy my appetite. I find that it needs extra cheese and milk - low-fat, soy or rice, for added moisture and creaminess. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner...add pre-cooked Annie's Mac & Cheese to make a cast-iron skillet frittata with eggs, a little more milk product, spinach, sauteed veggies and mushrooms, as well as your favorite herbs. Cook until its slightly crispy on the bottom, but don't let your frittata dry out.

I've been keeping my eye out for Strauss yogurt for quite some time. I found it recently - I guess it was hidden in plain site. It's now my absolute fav! I love the rich, creamy consistency - not too runny, not too thick - for me, it's just right. Unlike Nancy's yogurt, which I consider unusually tart, Strauss' sweet creaminess is balanced with a pleasant tartness that doesn't put my teeth on edge. I like to immerse my granola in Strauss yogurt, and use my finger to lick up the cream that coats the inside of the bowl. What little remains, my cat patiently waits his turn to enjoy.
