Great bike repairman!
This is a one-man business. It's done the old-fashioned way in more ways than one. Curtis goes around on his 3-wheel bicycle with all his tools on board paying house calls in the Evanston area. Because he doesn't have to pay for a shop, he has no overhead and that's reflected in the super-reasonable prices. There are no price surprises because he has a ''menu'' on his bike listing the prices for usual services. Even though he's not old, he reminds me of how service was done in the old days--personable, reasonable, customer-centered, fast, friendly, and reliable. I wish I could say that about more businesses these days, but alas. Unfortunately Curtis only works at bike repair 2 days a week during warm months and not at all during the winter. But he is known to stretch things a bit to accommodate customers if he has the time.

Best yogurt!
If you've never tried Fage yogurt from Greece, you don't know what you're missing. Even the zero fat yogurt is rich and creamy. Even tho this doesn't have organic labeling, I'm told that in Greece BGH is never used on cows and all dairy products are hence organic. This yogurt is not cheap. It's close to $5.oo for a small carton with 2 1/2 servings but well worth it if you're a yogurt fancier. Once you try it you'll never go back to the watery nonfat yogurt of other producers.

Lakeside Cafe
Great place to hang out, have a healthy meal, and watch a movie on Thursday nights (movie is free, inspirational). Also, they're starting to have a group table on Thursday nights for those who don't have a companion and don't want to eat alone (or do have a companion and want to meet new people). I'm hoping for more variety on the menu as the place grows. The owners are wonderful and responsive to customer requests.

Freecycle
Great way to get rid of what you don't need and get what you do! No money exchanges hands. You prevent your discards from going into landfill and get free stuff that you need. The only requirement is that your first posting has to be an offer. After that you can post all the WANTED's you desire.
