My non-green guilty pleasure

This lovely little fan appears to have originally been designed to sit atop your wood-burning stove and blow the heat across the room. However, I lived in a chilly, drafty San Francisco Victorian with an old-school gas radiator in one room (to heat the WHOLE place). My creative roommate put one of these on top of the heater and, voila, life as we knew it was transformed, no more froze toes. It works great with no outside electricity, the heat from the radiator powers the fan and the fan blows the heat throughout the place-- and it is actually beautiful. Great for all of us renters who can't install solar panels just yet....

I don't like bugs. Well, i do love the bees (bless the bees)--- but i don't like mosquitos, fleas, sandfleas, chiggers, no-see-ums, spiders-- you get the picture. And while I know each of these spindly legged creatures is a unique and magical contributor to beautiful creation (and I do TRY to love them) I DON'T LIKE THEM FEEDING ON ME!
i do like burt's insect lotion/repellent. It smells like lemongrass, it goes on like moisturizer, i can pronounce and probably eat all of the ingredients (i don't know, is citronella and eucalyptus oil edible?). When I put it on, my skin glows and my true love sits much closer than he did when i used to use OFF!

THE BEST THING I'VE FOUND for my super-ultra sensitive skin is the California Baby line.
This Calming lotion, is a fantastic, scent-free moisturizer that soothes my irritable skin.
A few years ago I came down with something called 'perioral dermatitis.' eeewwww! Mysterious dermatitis in the soft skin between the corners of your mouth and your nose and on your chin-- red, itchy, flaky, bumpy, swelly, yuk! Nobody knows quite WHY you get this but most think it's sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate (the foaming agents in pretty much all commercial soaps, washes, cleansers and toothpastes)-- In any case, it's got something to do with the chemical crap in products (even several of the 'green' brands have SLS, just look for a toothpaste without it).
A trip to the dermatologist and six weeks of pharmaceuticals cleared it up but the dr. said it could recur fairly easily now that my skin was 'sensitized'. CA Baby is ultra clean and gentle, keeps me calm.
