Review of Kearney

A big, big bag, but not much more

The Kearney bag is HUGE, but that's about it. It has a shiny, plastic look to it, thanks to the rice bag material. It's large enough to hold a semester's worth of books, a laptop and it's peripherals, or a picnic. The side and top pockets are convenient and easy to access. The main clasp for the bag can be hard to open one-handed. The hook for the flap doesn't always stay closed. The straps are wide, which is good for balancing the weight but may cut in if you have narrow shoulders. The fabric can be irritating to bare skin.

Considering how much eBags charged me for this bag ($50), I was expecting more. I am expecting it to last for a while, provided I don't abuse it.

A worthy alternative!

I just renewed my membership in the Better World Club. I've used their emergency service once and the response was fast, pleasant, and painless. I also used their travel service which got me a great deal for Thanksgiving, including the carbon offset. I've recommended them twice and both people were happy with the results. I was very pleased to get a phone call from a representative who I felt genuinely wanted to know if I was happy with the service.

Review of UltraTouch

Easy to use, may be hard to find

Ultratouch is very easy to work with. We installed the R22 under our kitchen (an enclosed porch). It cut and tore easily and, so far, is insulating the floor well. There was some dust from the cutting and tearing, but none of the irritation of fiberglass batting. My only complaint is that it's not easy to find. Only two places in the area sell it and one had problems getting orders filled. It is more expensive than the pink stuff, but I think the footprint makes up for the price difference.

It's like thrift shopping for your house

I don't normally groove on flea market or thrift shopping, but every trip to Community Forklift is a surprise! They have the oddest collection of salvaged material and the prices are too good not to take advantage of something. Whether it's carpet tiles and appliances or green building materials (insulation, in my case), it's all very reasonable. Don't go in with a shopping list, just go with your eyes open and your creative juices flowing. The staff is very helpful and friendly and show an obvious love for their task.

A spot of loving kindness on Capitol Hill

This studio has created a great community of teachers and students. They offer everything from Itsy Bitsy and prenatal yoga to restorative to pilates. Each class has the feel of a group of friends. I love the workshops and holiday classes dedicated to worthy causes. And I sincerely thank teacher Elizabeth Goodman for introducing me to Anusara and yoga nidra!

Review of Assam Black Tea

Just tea, nothing less

I adore Honest Tea's line, but especially the Assam. It's simple: just black tea, purified water, and organic cane sugar and maple syrup. It's just a little bit sweet, which balances perfectly with the tea's astringency. The whole bottle (two servings) is just 80 calories. And they plant trees.

Review of Frey Vineyards

Delicious wines, fabulous staff

I had the pleasure of trying Frey's organic wines at the DC Green Festival. The pinot noir was richly flavored. The chardonnay was delightful. I ordered a trio to be sent to my brother for Christmas. When the shipping company lost, stole, or tossed his package, Julie at Frey worked with me to track it and then replace it. Frey's wines show a strong committment to the earth. Their staff shows an equally strong committment to their customers.
