After many years of watching my wife buy the small sport pack bottles from our water service (and seeing our money figuratively go down the drain) and realizing how much petroleum (i.e. oil) and gas is used to deliver those bottles, I said enough is enough. I did some research on SustainLane and discovered the Kleen Kanteen. I read the reviews by others and I can honestly say I was impressed. I immediately ordered two large and three smaller bottles (one for my wife and I and the three smaller ones for the kids). After about a couple of weeks (they were backordered) they arrived. I find the construction to be excellent -- my kids can certainly bang things around and these bottles can take what they dish out -- and the size to be just right for running, working out at the gym or just having water around. The fact that they're stainless steel helps keep any aftertaste from seeping into the water and the idea that I'm not wasting more money and oil by buying the plastic bottles from my water service helps me feel like I'm making a small difference. The only gripe I have is that they're made in China and I feel that we, as a community, need to spend less in China until they clean up their human rights record as well as their own environmental record. Anyway, it's a start and I intend to keep going and these are great bottles for carrying water whereever you need to.
