Vegan Pancakes...Yum!
Cookbook Author: Dreena Burton
Okay, I have only tried one recipe, so you may want to take this review with a grain of salt. I tried the Apple Oat Pancakes (I used bananas instead of Apples, though), and OH MY GOD!!! were they good. I have been having the most difficult time dealing with my 6-months-recent return to vegetarianism because of breakfast foods, and found the answer to my needs in this book.
I have not read the previous cookbook by Ms. Burton ("The Everyday Vegan"), but am now ready to look for it. I have read through most of the recipes in "Vive Le Vegan" and find the instructions to be pretty clear and concise. She give lots of suggestions for substitutions, and includes alot of wheat-free versions of the recipes.
So, okay, I gave this one 4 stars, but that is because I haven't made more recipes. I am looking forward to making the scones, as well as the scalloped potatoes. I am sure it will rate higher once I get into it more.

Not a bad little meal
I have returned to vegetarianism after a 13 year absence, and have found being a vegetarian to be SO EASY! Here's a great example: Thanksgiving dinner in a box - completely VEGAN! YAY! We ate it with homeade mashed potatoes and greenbeans.
-Ease of cooking - pretty easy. It comes frozen and recommends 12-24 hours defrosting in the fridge. 36 hours would have been better. We baked the stuffed "turkey" and microwaved the gravy.
-The "Turkey" -Made from seitan, somewhat shaped to look like a turkey roll. Tasty, but a bit tough and rubbery. If you are expecting turkey, you will be disappointed. If you expect a tasty thing on your plate, you will get it. In other words, this will not fool meat-eaters.
-The "turkey skin" - fantastic; this was a great surprise - it's crispy and chewy, and looks disturbingly like turkey or chicken skin. It's made out of soy - the skin part that hardens on the top when they make soy milk. It's yummy. It browned really well.
-The stuffing - the best thing in the box. (I felt this way about stuffing BEFORE I became a vegetarian, too) It's savory, a tiny bit spicy, well seasoned and just the perfect amount of moisture. It tastes like what you expect from your grandmother, if she makes good stuffing.
-The gravy - pretty good. The texture and appearance were spot on. It is mild and tasty, but not strong enough of a flavor. It moistened the potatoes and stuffing well, but I found the flavor too mild. I prefer spicier gravy, but my husband felt it to be perfect.

Pretty great smelling product
I am very happy with my Method all purpose cleaner. It smells like flowers, cleans sticky dirt, and makes me feel virtuous.
