Review of Maple Whole Milk Yogurt by Straus Family Creamery

2 star rating Review of Maple Whole Milk Yogurt October 10, 2007 | Posted in Food & Grocery

Surprised not to like it This is the first Straus product I haven't absolutely loved, so I was surprised. The yogurt had a thin, almost watery texture and the maple tasted artificial. It's made with organic maple syrup and organic milk, there's nothing artificial about it, except - I guess - the taste.

I tried two...

Review of Sandals by Earth

3 star rating Review of Sandals September 9, 2007 | Posted in Shoes

But Pick One! Negative-heel shoes can be extremely comfortable, but I learned the hard way not to go back and forth.

Packing for a three-week vacation that involved hours of walking every day, I took a pair of comfortable boots with two-inch heels and a pair of negative-heeled flats.

I nearly destroyed my...

Review of The Ample Sample Design Contest

4 star rating Review of The Ample Sample Design Contest September 6, 2007 | Posted in Community, Charitable & NGOs

Do-It-Yourself Design The Ample Sample Design Contest was the brainchild of a design firm, a carpet manufacturer, and an industry magazine.

The goal was to find ways to creatively recycle the thousands of carpet samples that are typically thrown away every year.

The ten finalists include a chaise lounge, a purse, a...

Review of Aziza

4 star rating Review of Aziza September 4, 2007 | Posted in San Francisco, Restaurants

A Beautiful Evening Aziza is a wonderful restaurant and the perfect place for a beautiful evening.

The setting manages to be both inviting and comfortable at the same time. The staff is professional and still totally friendly, the people here are great.

But - go for the food, the meat is sustainably raised, the...

Review of Organic Cotton Tampons by Organic Essentials

3 star rating Review of Organic Cotton Tampons September 4, 2007 | Posted in Skin & Body Care

Not a Cure Every box of organic cotton tampons I've ever opened has included the exact same warning about Toxic Shock Syndrome as any other brand.

There are a lot of reasons to choose organic cotton tampons. Eliminating the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome is not one of them.

Toxic Shock Syndrome is a rare but...

Review of Plain Whole Milk Yogurt by Straus Family Creamery

4 star rating Review of Plain Whole Milk Yogurt July 18, 2007 | Posted in Food & Grocery

The ultimate yogurt When someone says they don't like yogurt, I tell them to try Straus whole milk. It never fails, no one doesn't like this, it's too rich, and mild, and sweet, with just enough tang to remind you you're eating yogurt.

If everything healthy tasted this good we'd all live to be 1000.

Review of BART

2 star rating Review of BART July 18, 2007 | Posted in Oakland, Transportation

Better than nothing? As someone who would always rather ride than drive, I take BART whenever possible. This system is so bad I can barely call it public transportation.

Tickets are priced so high that it's still cheaper to drive sometimes, even with a $4 bridge toll. Parking is totally unavailable during the day...

Review of Berkeley Bowl Marketplace

5 star rating Review of Berkeley Bowl Marketplace July 10, 2007 | Posted in Berkeley, Food & Grocery

There's a reason it's crowded Shopping at Berkeley Bowl can be a challenge, no question. If you can see the floor, it's not crowded, but there are a lot of reasons to join the rush.

The produce department is the best, they have Everything, a lot of it organic or local or both. The fish counter is excellent, they carry grass...

Review of Rice Dream Rice Milk by Taste The Dream

1 star rating Review of Rice Dream Rice Milk 1 comment | June 21, 2007 | Posted in Tasty Drinks

Not from cows, but not worth drinking, either When I wanted to find a way for my family to eat less dairy, I bought some Rice Dream and failed utterly to see the point.

Rice milk is a great source of simple carbohydrates - period. It contains almost no calcium or protein. Rice Dream now offers versions that have been artificially...

Review of 1860-1960

4 star rating Review of 1860-1960 June 9, 2007 | Posted in Clothing

Vintage Clothing to go Nuts Over This website is the ultimate in recycling - these are the clothes your great-grandmother wore. Victorian shoes, Edwardian hats, beaded bags, and flapper dresses - it's all here, in amazing condition, and the prices are real world, not stratosphere.
