Additional Reusable Wrapping Paper Ideas
To go one step further in using reusable wrapping materials, I use the black ribbon from old video cassettes to tie around my newspaper wrapped gifts. The shiny, black "ribbon" looks great with the black and white newspaper. I also use this to wrap bottles of wine, tying the cartridge ribbon around the neck of the bottle.
In addition, when I receive brown packing paper inside the boxes of mailed packages, I save the paper and have my children stamp Christmas images using cutout sponges (like stars, Christmas trees, snowmen, etc) that are dipped into paint onto the paper. The grandparents love getting gifts wrapped in their grandchildren's "artwork", and it's entirely reused paper!
For small packages, I photo copy one on my kindergartner's pieces of artwork onto recycled computer scratch paper and wrap the package with this.
