Trees for a GOOD change
I found an advertisement at my local, progressive coffeeshop. It was a brochure for a company that will plant a tree in a your name (or someone else's name) for a reasonable fee. This helps us compensate for the pollution created by our driving a car or anyone else driving a car, among other things! TREES for A CHANGE allows us to lighten the infamous carbon footprint that all of us leave in one way or another. The gift can be a mere card informing the person of your gift or a person can have a handsome framed document, inscribed with their name and/or your recipient's name, for a higher price. This makes a LOVELY, relevant, very GREEN gift for oneself, a friend, or for the WORLD! Naturally, the gift is printed on recycled paper! I have purchased a framed document for myself (which I proudly hang in my classroom for my students to see) and I have purchased just the cards as Christmas gifts this year. The prices are better than reasonable and the quality and workmanship of the document is superb--in other words, WORTHY of framing, and the feeling that goes with buying something RELEVANT and useful, that will last for maybe 200 years or more, is gratifying. I love this service, by TREES FOR CHANGE and I am going to use it a whole lot more for next Christmas because the gift is MEANINGFUL and the opposite of the foolish waste our consumerist culture propagates.
